The birth of this web site, then a web page with a white background, was known then as "The Unofficial Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon Web Page."It was had about 6 links related to the first Nintendo 64 Goemon (Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon) game, as well as a number of Goemon graphics spread across the page.
Its address was http://www.angelfire.com/pa/SnowDome/mn64.html.
|
It was announced that another N64 game, now known as Goemon's Great Adventure,
was being made. Because of this, the web site's name was changed to "The Unofficial Mystical Ninja Web Site"
(This would stay that site name for 8 months!)
This web site was then dedicated to the coverage of all future N64 Goemon games, and the site now had a black background. Also, the site had expanded to 6 pages: the Home page, the Reviews page, the Tips and Codes page, the Strategy page, the Contributors page, and the Art Gallery/News page.
|
The site moved its small mailing list to listbot.com on August 22nd, and became biweekly, then a weekly mailing list. The Mystical Team was formed, mainly to seek out new Goemon info and to check for errors at the site. A link to the site was put up at videogames.com, so the site became more popular.
Also, a major site graphical reconstruction was finished. The site headers (graphic at the top of the page) contained different Goemon characters with comic quote boxes that introduced the site. Only the old separator graphic bars (made from graphics of helmets, foods, and other Goemon items) still remained from the original site.
|
The web site moved to http://mysticalninja.webjump.com, because of its shorter address. In the same month, the address was moved again to http://www.angelfire.com/mn/MYSTICALNINJA. The WebJump address was abandoned, due to its server problems at that time.
It was announced that Goemon's Great Adventure (then known as Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon 2) would be released in America during 2nd quarter 1999. The History/Multimedia Page was created upon the idea of an editor at videogames.com. It contained a MIDI file, a Real Audio file, and two movies of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64) in addition to the then-known history of Goemon: the 4 SNES Goemons, and the 2 N64 Goemons (the other Goemons weren’t yet “discovered”). The mailing list name was changed to "The Mystical Updater".
|
Mystical Ninja e-mail was founded, in which visitors to this web site could received username@mysticalninja.zzn.com e-mail for free (username@goemon.zzn.com was later offered). To this day, many Goemon followers still use these addresses. In addition, the site moved to http://mysticalninja.virtualave.net. |
The 6 month anniversary of this web site, and it was a very important month!
More info was received on Goemon's Great Adventure, and info on the Goemon anime was added to the site (this anime is now available from ADV Films in the USA). The Net-Mind service was added to the site, allowing its users to be instantly alerted by e-mail when a page on this site was updated. Finally, because of the release of a new Game Boy Goemon, along with newly formed alliances with others interested in Goemon, plans began to make this site cover all American released Goemon games, including future games.
|
The review of the Goemon anime was released, showing many Goemon newcomers about a little known Goemon cartoon five years before it became available in the USA.
At the end of the site's first year on the internet, it had reached the 4,000 hit mark and
grown to 9 pages! The Tips/Codes, Strategy, and Reviews pages were broken down into a new format to make the page readable. More info was received on Goemon's Great Adventure, including more previews, movies and box arts. The History page grew with new info on the import (Japanese) Goemon games. Also, new web publishing software allowed for changes to be made more quickly and with fewer errors. For such a modest site (for such a niche gaming series), it was believed then that the 4,000 visitors the came to the site in 1998 would be the end of the growth for the site. However, events and more info on Goemon began a huge growth in the size of this site.
|
The shopping section was added to the Services page, and the site obtained almost all of the Goemon games. It was then decided that the site would be completely reorganized, because of its fast growth and cumbersome navigation. The reborn site would be called "The Mystical Web Site of Goemon", due to the site's soon-to-be-coverage of all Goemon games! The renovated site appeared at http://goemon.8m.com in an unfinished form on February 26th. The News and History pages were given their own pages, and the Virtualave address was used only as the cover page.
|
The renovation was completed, including separate Contributors and Credits, Legal Disclaimer and Links pages. More box arts were added as well as a premiere of the three vocal tracks from Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64) in Real Audio format. At the time, these tracks were highly demanded and not available anywhere else on the internet! |
The Goemon Imports project was announced with the help of Gerimon, which would be a section of the web site with extensive coverage of import Goemon games. The free username@goemon.zzn.com service was added. |
